Human-readable URLs

Post by maksudasm »

This format is used in Cyrillic domains and in some cases in short addresses.

The advantages of this URL writing format are:

They are very easy to remember because they are written in Russian;

they provide a large selection of free domain names, since the popularity of Cyrillic domains is still much lower than transliterated ones;

They make it possible to include keywords in the address.

The main disadvantage that vnpay database all Cyrillic URLs have is shown below:

This is exactly what the address of a page from a marketplace looks like, where a consumer entered the query “sweater for a girl”, copied from the browser line and pasted into a text editor.

This happens because all URLs are written using a fixed set of characters, which does not include Cyrillic letters and symbols. Therefore, all addresses written in this system are encrypted in a similar way, but remain functional.

Other disadvantages of URLs written in Cyrillic format include the difficulty of remembering and understanding them by foreign users, as well as the complicated process of their indexing by search crawlers.

Human-readable URLs
Among the recommendations for website optimization from Google and Yandex, there is an indication that the URLs of all Internet resources should be understandable and meaningful not only for search robots, but also for ordinary Internet users.

Advantages of CNC:

ease of memorization and ease of copying;

the ability to add keywords to their composition;

simplified navigation on the web resource (to go to the desired page, it is enough to erase part of the address in the browser line - this significantly reduces the load on the site search).

Shortened URLs
Often, many resources on the Internet have similar template short addresses, from the name of which the content of the page is not entirely clear, redirecting users to completely different pages and sites. This is a URL shortening format, which is implemented using specialized services.

This address format allows you to conveniently and easily collect statistics on clicks: the original link is stored in the service database, and its shortened version redirects users to the desired resource.

Goo.gl was once the most popular URL shortening product. It had advanced statistics collection tools. The service also allowed viewing data on which devices and browsers users used to click on shortened links, the total number of these movements, the number of URL mentions, and the geographical location of visitors. In March 2018, Google stopped supporting its work.
