Total output from the production industries fell by 0.1%. Manufacturing rose by 0.1%. This was more than offset by a fall of 0.6% in mining and quarrying (including oil and gas extraction) and a fall of 1.3% in electricity, email list gas and water supply.
Services rose by 0.8%, compared with 0.9% in the fourth quarter of 2004.
Distribution, hotels and restaurants fell by 0.1 %. There was decreased output from retailing and public houses and bars. Wholesaling increased.

Transport and communication rose by 0.4%, compared with 1.6% in the fourth quarter of 2004. of transport services and post and courier.
Business services and finance rose by 1.4%. Both business services and financial services increased.
Government and other services rose by 0.9% in the first quarter of 2005. Both government services and other services increased.
