The rapid transition from an industrialised society to a knowledge-based society has revealed some shortcomings in the now essential digital skills, both among many current and future workers and in the business environment.

Information and communication technologies, also known as ICTs, have proven to be essential in improving business productivity processes.

So what skills do we need to achieve a competitive advantage through task automation and its support role in decision making ?

This is one of the many questions you will find answered in this article, but before we get into the different skills we need to master, there is a key question we need to start with.

What are digital skills?
According to the European Commission, digital competences are a set of knowledge, skills, attitudes, strategies and awareness that are required when using ICTs and digital media to perform tasks, solve problems, communicate, manage information, collaborate, create and share content, build knowledge in an effective, efficient, appropriate, critical, creative, autonomous, flexible, ethical, reflective manner for work, leisure, participation, learning, socialisation, consumption and empowerment.

After this long definition, it must be added that ICT skills encompass a rational and critical use of information and communication technologies for working and learning that go beyond the merely instrumental knowledge of the tools.

When it comes to launching ourselves into the world of work, we will have to face tough competition.

Our personal brand must be sufficiently developed and self-knowledge about our digital skills is essential.

Remember that your digital skills don't come as standard. Have you worked on them?

We must establish a distinction between basic digital skills, which are those that any person must have in today's society to navigate the digital environment , and those that must be developed specifically, providing greater value that makes us stand out when we are considered for a job.

Let's go step by step and distinguish between core competencies from a training perspective and from a business perspective.
