Surface evaluation
The main function of surface assessment is to identify the extent and severity of existing damage (cracks, potholes, rutting, fatigue) through visual inspection. This information affects the overlay thickness and whether additional repairs are required.

Asphalt overlay thickness
A thin layer of cover (one to one and a half inches) may be example of taiwan phone number ufficient for minor surface wear, but extensive cracks or weak subsoil may require a thicker layer (two to three inches) to provide a solid foundation and prevent cracks from reflecting through the new cover.

Covering material
After determining the thickness, the next question is what material to use to lay over the old surface. The condition of the existing pavement plays a major role in this decision.

Let’s look at the relevant factors:

Severely cracked surfaces: Consider a more flexible blend for better crack bridging.
Weak subsoil: A stronger mix may be needed for better support.
High-traffic areas: Stronger, coarser mixes are ideal for handling wear and tear.
Low-traffic areas: More economical options may suffice.
